Guru Rajee, disciplinarian, taskmaster and loving mentor for many dancers, has students all over the world, who conduct their own classes. These are branches of Guru Rajee’s institution, Nritya Geethanjali, Mumbai, India. Her students are ably equipped to not only perform, choreograph and teach Bharatanatyam, but also conduct the dance recitals of their students and other dancers.

When I approached Guru Rajee to teach me Bharatanatyam, in the seventies, I had already completed my graduation in Bharatanatyam, my Arangetram.

The name ‘Koo’ still rings in my ears – that’s what Amma used to call me, fondly and often. I still cannot say whether she found me or I found her, but one thing is certain: her coming into my life had a purpose.

My journey in Bharatanatyam began at age six, under my Guru, Smt. Rajee Narayan, my beloved Aunty. She was not just a teacher of dance but a fountain of wisdom and compassion.

I am grateful for Aunty's gentle love and care in training us to be successful dance practitioners and teachers.
